Default Deer and Elk seasons approaching !!!!!!!!!!!

Just curious if any of you guys are getting a "Unlimited Rifle Elk" if so what units are you going to hunt? Its my first time elk hunting and I'v been reading up on the statistics from 2004. Units: 211, 11 and 12 look pretty good. Anyone had any experience with these areas? As for deer... left overs are coming out on the 11th I'm going to try and get a unit 20 deer archery license. Anyone hunted 20?

211/ 12 is where I have my tags. There is plenty to go around, the biggest elk heard seen last year was 800 head, mostly doe. If you are looking for meat, that is the place. Deer was so-so, you had to move to the east, toward the mountain.

I didn't see a better existing thread to make this post so I'm dquatting in this one.

I just finished loading 40 rounds of ammo for my hunting rifle (180gr 30-06). I started yesterday but got delayed because I got my first ever stuck case and had to get the stuff today to make my own stuck case remover. (It worked great BTW.)

I've got 2 1/2 weeks until I take off work to head out to set up camp and I'm chomping at the bit.

My best friend and hunting partner has been out bow hunting all this week. He called me from the mtn while he was out doing his thing and told me the closest thing he's seen to an elk the entire time has been a fairly fresh set of tracks (he said the tracks looked like a bull, cow, and calf). He followed the tracks through the snow for about 2 hrs until he ran out of snow to track through and couldn't pick it up anywhere.

This doesn't bode well for rifle season. Hopefully the snowy weather will kick in and the elk will move back into the area - but I'm not holding my breath. Last year was a skunk for the entire team. If this year fairs the same we may have to consider trying a new area next year.

I'm heading up to Silver Spur at the end of October. Looking for a nice cow elk to fill the freezer. I'll be out on the south end of the metro area in October for Muzzleloader. I found some 250gr conical rounds that group nicely at 100 yards.

Three days and a wake-up before I head out and 6 days and a wake-up before season starts for me.

I REALLY need this break!!! It'd be nice to bag an elk too.

    Default Antelope

We had a good hunt for Antelope out on the plains last week. Look for it on my brother in laws Outdoor edges Love of the Hunt tv show in a few months. I had a hard time getting a doe( got it in the last 10 minutes of the hunt) but there were lots of bucks. Anyways I feel like were lucky to have a State with so much game. Cant wait to get my Mule Buck in few weeks and with this cold it may get em in the rut in time. The last two years were warm. Good luck to everyone and enjoy!

Yes David is the owner. The Man is one great hunter, and has been showing me the ropes for the last couple years in hunting. I always have been into shooting, but I got the hunting bug now because of him and his camera man. Also has some great products, an idiot like me can clean and process an animal in no time with his stuff. Anyways if we can get others to find out about hunting it will go a long way in protecting our 2nd rights. I started hunting in my late 30's and it makes me feel like I am a kid again!
