    Default Elk GMU unit #511

    Hello All!

I have an 1st season elk tag for GMU 511, I hunted it last year during second season (bull tag) north of divide in the signal butte area. On the first day I saw about 30 elk mixed bulls & cows about 1500 yards away and they were being shot up from all directions. The second day I saw about 3 cows while stalking and the elk disappeared from the area after that. I scouted the area around signal butte and the areas where I saw them last year on Sunday saw no tracks, scat, or any evidence they are even in that area. My license is limited to unit 511 and I don't mind hiking in several miles if you guys have any advice on where to find the elk in the unit.

Saw a huge herd on private land just north of Divide last week. They are on that private area a lot this time of year.

That huge herd was about to cross hwy 24 just west of Divide this morning. Must have been 80 or more cows and young bulls in that group.
Course, it's all private land through there.

You betta. I have connections with CPW. I've been told they are trying to increase the number of elk in GMU 511/59/581 to up to 3500 animals.
