Electrical Question - Ceiling Fan Lights Not Working

Here's the run down

1 wall switch controls power to the ceiling fan/light kit
Fan/Lights are on separate pull cords
Fan has power, pull cord is working
Light kit has power/pull cord was broken
Replaced on/off pull cord for light kit no workie
Hard wired light kit black to black (bypassed switch) no workie

Should I just say screw it and buy a new ceiling fan?

And I checked power to the lamps with it hard wired and after replacing the switch.

Check the connections between the fan and the light kit.

The builder installed fans in my house have separate switches for the fan and the light. Did your fan work before the switch was replaced? Most fans will work on one power source (single switch) but the wires for the fan and the light must be connected to the same switch. If I recall the light power wire would be blue and must be connected to the black wire in order to transfer power through to the light kit for the pull chain to work the light. Without the blue light wire connected to power the fan power would be the only thing that would work. I only pretend to know this from having swapped out fans from time to time.

Wall switch isn't a dimmer is it? Our living room fan works fine, but the lights don't. Dimmer switch at the wall that feeds it is all I can figure. We never need/use the lights anyway, and the switch is behind a BMF entertainment center, so changing the switch isn't a priority.

Is it one of the new fancy ones with a remote? Marlin argued with my fan when he put it in. Cursed me for buying a fancy one too.

Did the lights have power when you checked? What kind of bulbs did you put it? Mine has a setting for cfl and then regular lights. Something to do with voltage going to them

Did you check the connection of the neutral (white), a lot of times the hot wire (black) will read hot but not have power because the neutral is no good. You can always try hooking up the neutral to ground to see if the neutral wire is bad.

From what I am understanding, is after replacing the light pull cord switch, the fan still works but the lights with the new pull cord switch does not work.
Check power before fore the pull switch and after the pull switch with a meter, if there is power to ground,You may have knocked a loose noddle to the lights off, if there is no power to ground, Recheck all wiring connections including above the fan in the ceiling box.
Be sure to turn off the circuit breaker first !
Then in drop the fan unit & check / remake all connections, reinstall the fan and light kit remaking all connections as you go.
Turn the breaker back on and check operation.
