    Default wild horses?

I know there's a lot of serious hunters here that roam all over this state - just wondering if any of you have ever seen any of these wild mustangs running free that are supposed to be so thick in Colorado? Keep reading about them in the paper and wondered.....

Wild horses are protected by the Wild Horse act of 1971. BLM controls the herds; when they get too big they adopt them out.

Yeah, but where are they? Any regular normal folks ever see them in the wild?

I've walked and worked among wild horses in several areas of NW CO. Take most any BLM or forest road in the dry land areas around Rangely and west of Meeker to find them. Their poop mounds can be visible from some distance and are an indicator of horses in the area. An easy place to see them is in Coal Canyon north of I-70 off the Cameo exit in the Little Bookcliffs Wild Horse Area. I go there every spring looking for Chukars and early spring migrant birds.

While I like seeing the horses it's sad to watch the emaciated animals in areas where their population is too high for the range forage. Over populated horse herds do tremendous damage to the vegetative and native wildlife resource. As feral, non native animals their numbers need to be controlled, and eliminated in some areas. Next to domesticating for riding, their highest use would be for pet food. Housing them in corrals at the annual cost of tens of million$ is a terrible misuse, IMO.

I rode a mustang from Colorado to Motana this summer and she was a gr at horse. I would hate to see good ponies going to slature, however I 100% agree with the above post

Saw some several years ago in NW Colorado. My dad saw a bunch last year in Wyoming when he was heading out fishing, I forget where at exactly though.
All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break em for no one.
