Ducks are louder and can be messy. Yeah, you city guys are more limited for sure. I think the Muskovys are pretty quiet and are good if you have neighbors. And you really don't need as much water around for ducks as some peope think, especially if you only have a few of them. They do need some though and it gets mucked up quickly and needs to be chaned often.

If you live in the foothills you will need to take precautions against all sorts of predators: hawks, coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, owls, bears, dogs, etc. Good fencing is necessary, and a few strands of electrified wire would help a lot.

Having a dog or two around would be good too. Just keep them away from the birds.
