If anyone is the bedroom, they can hear you talking through the window and will come to see what's up. This is the one that was smart enough to fly over the snow but won't lay any eggs. She is an Easter Egger, which is a sort of chicken mutt. They are named easter eggers because as a "breed" they can lay eggs of any color (yellow, green, blue, brown), although the egg color of an individual bird won't change.

This one looks like a rooster but slings eggs like a boss. If I remember correctly, this is a Colombian Rock. If I even think about this chicken, she sprints across the yard to where I should be to see if I have food for her.

The indoor animals and the chickens get along just fine, which is nice.

Here are the two aforementioned hens sharing a different part of the nesting box.

I can buy a 3 pack of Lutron Caseta smart dimmers with Pico remote on ebay for ~40 each. Slap the remote in a faux plate on a wall for an instant wireless 3-way. HD sells the 3-pack retail for $48 each. The "better" ones with an additional "favorite" button, that use a neutral and run MLV or ELV lights (virtually anything) and at a higher wattage I picked up for $60 each but those don't come with a remote - thought the Pico remotes do work with them.

A Zooz paddle switch is $40 or less. They can also run 3-way or 4-way with dumb switches.

P.S. They're not WiFi, they're z-wave. Wifi stuff only works with the likes of Alexa and Google Home. Z-wave and zigbee are the new HA standards.

I'll stop crapping your thread now, sorry.

In early December I emptied the compost into the garden.

Every single day since then, the chickens spend a few hours each afternoon mixing it into the garden for me. I'm still going to rent a rototiller and add some more dirt to mix it all in, but chickens have really upped my compost game.

I've never even heard of zwave and zigabee, but I'm interested in being educated.

I just want to make sure you can keep up. No one can crap up a thread like a chicken, with this perfect spiral crap. I should have framed this in a shadow box.

Our Easter egger managed a double yolker the other day. Holy crap.

That's an enormous egg for the size of my bird. I think I've got a double yolker in the fridge right now. If I remember I'll take a picture sometime of one.
