    Default Gas Is Cheap

I've need to get this part of my preps cleared up for a while and now seems to be the time to do it.

I'm looking to store 20-25 gallons of gasoline in 5 gallon cans. My plan is to use one of these in a vehicle on a monthly basis and refill the can that day so assume that it will be rotated fully every 4-5 months.

Any recommendations for fuel cans and if I should use a stabilizer. 20 gallons won't last long but would provide a buffer or double my mileage in the event that the family needs to bug out.

Hope I'm not raining on your parade, but rotating though 5 gal cans is kind of a pain. Even with Sta-bil, I don't think the safe shelf life is much more than 6 months. I don't know of a better solution for gasoline. The shelf life is the major limiting factor. Also, good gas cans can be very pricey.

Pri-G makes it last longer, but eventually you hit a limit with modern formulations.

If you go to http://pure-gas.org you will find a list of stations that have non ethanol gas. It will last longer and with stabilizer in it will last up to 2 years with proper storage. By proper storage I mean sealed steel containers keep in relatively stable temps, typically a non heated garage is fine, just elevate said container off the concrete a bit on blocks. I use a 55 gal drum and have a hand pump for it. I have the barrel from my days of running race fuel in my snowmobile.

This ^^^^ (or get a Diesel... But storing Diesel has other issues, like algae)

Chief petroleum in Colorado Springs is one example that carries non-ethanol fuel, and off road Diesel (for my tractor)
I will only run non-ethanol gas in my chainsaw, 2 stroke engines with pre mix fuel are very sensitive.

That website has problems. It just bounces forward to various adverts. Anyone else have same issue?

I have six 5 gallon cans on rotation right now and throw Sta-Bil in it. No problems so far.

I got all my cans at Walmart. They go on sale every so often for about $12.
