Sig P938

My other half came to me a while back and wanted her own gun. I was like "out-flippen-standing" and told her to get looking.

Little background: On our first date 15 years ago, she spotted my Sig 226 and asked if that is a "gun". I stopped my truck and had the talk from day one. Pretty much told her my 2nd Amendment rights and gun ownership is a big part of my life. In no shape or form would she ever change that and if she did, the relationship would change as well. She has always had access to my handguns and whatever else was in the arsenal.

Hind site is always 20/20, and she kinda had a little issue with my guns after our first child was born. Proper steps were taken to ensure no kid would ever touch my weapons ever. I started really thinking about her training and the whole situation. Pretty much, she couldn't tell me if one of my several XD pistols were loaded or not (even with the nice little indicator), really had no idea what caliber or anything about the gun(s) in general. This really didn't sit good with me, so I took the extra pistols, locked them or sold them. I really do not need someone in my house that will not train, learn or even have the slightest interest in guns having full access to an XD.45, 40x2. Most likely would do more harm than good.

Fast forward a couple years things in life happen, whether it be news, friends or whatever. She wanted her own gun and would like my help in getting one with my support. I gave her my requirements and she completed them (CCW Class, pick a good weapon that fits her without looking at price, and practice at least 500 rounds per year).

Well she went and did the research and set up a few date nights up at Magnum shooting center (I have a life long friend that works there) and he set us up with a few rentals and range time. Guns she tried:

-1911 .45 ACP, she said it kicked and it was heavy for daily use. It wasn't comfortable in her hand. Fair enough.
-S&W M&P 9mm. She liked the Shield and shot it well. It was a go in my book.
-Glocks, 26 & 27. Great shooters but just didn't like the feel in her hand.
-XD 45, .40's. She liked the .45 better than the .40, especially in the sub-compact.
-Sig P938, she instantly liked this pistol. She liked the size, feel and how it shot. She was not as good out the box with this weapon as the Shield.
-We tried some other weapons like revolvers in the .38 flavor, a Star 9mm (yeah, that is old).

She chose the Sig 938. She almost backed out due to price and I had to swallow my words and tell her a gun is like your favorite jeans, they have to fit you. We found a sale at Cabelas, had some gift cards from work that pretty much paid for the weapon. So cost was no longer an issue.
For a pocket pistol, I have to say it has been enjoyable to shoot. With the Tritium Night sites, trigger pull is short with a crisp break, finish has been good so far, and no mechanical problems with any ammo we have tried. Weapon has just over 400 rounds through it. Funny she didn't like the full sized 1911 but likes the Sig 938. Oh well, at least she has something that is reliable and comfortable that she shoots pretty well.

Lately, she has been really getting into shooting the AR-15. What have I done?

I really really liked the 938 I had. One of the smoothest, nicely finished, good shooting little pistols I've ever owned. With that said, I felt it was a bit nice, and a bit pricey for something I'd just throw in my pocket on occasion, so I sold it and kept a Kahr CM9. Great choice by your wife.

pros: Accurate, less felt recoil than tupperware guns, well built, quasi 1911 MOA - like being able to load to C1 with it cocked and safed (from empty, rack slide, safe, load mag, rack slide to chamber).
cons: MOA for the ladies or anyone that doesn't practice it often. Damn. Trigger. Bite. trigger pull on some (mine).

The trigger pull was horrible on mine. Upgraded the trigger and hammer spring here.
Trigger bite also fixed with smooth trigger. I did a light fluff/buff but no angle changes. Could still use a little sear work and polish as they have a wicked factory hook.

Glad that others have the same experience as we had. I just hope we never have to use it, but if so it will be trusted.
