Help 300 win mag vs 30-06

Glad you were able to try them out and decide for yourself! I agree with you, the -06 is far more comfortable to shoot. at least until you can put a brake/can on the Mag

I hate the belted cases too for bore alignment, case life and feeding (I like the idea of the Dakota cartridges - basically the classic magnums without the belt). The 300 win mag is a classic for sure, but for me it's 20-25% more powder for a 10% increase in speed.

Also, the lighter the bullet, the more erratic your numbers will come out with the magnum. It may or may not matter to you, but the .300 win mag is for 165's and up IMO.

Anyway, sounds like you landed on the .30-06 for the number one reason most people give up on magnums...
