Default Any recommendations for choosing a gmu

I'm getting ready to hunt this fall I wanted to to hunt mule deer any recommendations on which gmu I should scout? I'm checking a few areas my grandpa used to take me the problem is he used to hunt on private land, so I don't want to pay to use the land I know it may be worth it but I don't want to lose the money if I don't tag a deer.

Do you have a general area of the state in mind? I have been scouting east of the divide and north of 70. Mule deer are pretty slim, has me leaning towards trying to pull a muzzle loader permit to get more time in the field instead of regular rifle.

I'm new to the state, but talking with a few other hunters, it sounds like mule deer numbers have been falling the past few years.

I guess starting at random, check the harvest statistics from the division. Also depends where you want to stay. You could call a warden or biologist. The division also has seminars, and may have some online for deer hunting, but call and maybe they have suggestions for deer.

My understanding is that the elk push deer out of the area, so you want to find a place with not as many elk.

Muzzleloader season is the same 9 days as rifle, unless you're referring to 4th season. Archery is the only thing that can get you more time in the field.
