Saw these guys today on Genesee Ridge Road and Currant Dr at about 12:58 pm.

Those elk look pretty healthy, fat and happy. Last week before the big snow we took a drive to Estes and must have seen 200 elk from Meeker Park to Estes Park. They looked more ragged and somewhat thin. The next day we saw a group of elk a half mile up the road from the house--St. Vrain and Lefthand drainage elk. They were in much better shape, better coat and full bellied. To me it is indicative of the out of balance big game management situation in Rocky Mountain National Park.

They were all still there about 30-40 minutes later when I drove by again as well.

I'm grilling elk steaks and corn on the cob and this little fellow showed up a few minutes ago. I told him to go away and not come back.

(Yes, I took in the feeder.)

Another moose went through today but I didn't see it. Also, a fox this morning.

That's neat! Nice looking bear.

Yes, he's a beauty. Or, she's a beauty.

A different one than the brown one we saw a couple weeks ago.

I enjoyed seeing the bears around our home in Bailey. Usually a nightly occurrence during the summer months.

A black bear was so determined to break into a doughnut delivery vehicle, it ripped off the car's back bumper.

Found the Alpha Woodpecker

Ha! That's some serious wood pecking! Not from Colorado I would guess. There's only one record of Pileated Woodpecker in the state, from the Aspen area around 1938, and that record is suspect. ;>)
