Is this an alligator snapping turtle, or just a regular snapping turtle? This guy had a leach on his shell and a bunch of snails. He also must have had a tummy ache because he was pretty cranky.

That dude just looks prehistoric. But it's a common snapping turtle. The alligator has a shell with lots of bumps and humps on it.

The alligator ones you see online are always the size of a truck too, so I wasn't sure. I thought of you today. I was at this farm and the wife breeds dogs on the side. There was one Jack Russel, and about 5 Rat Terriers. Those dogs followed me around and barked at me the entire time I was within 50 yards of the house.

Sounds like typical Terriers.

Anyone know what this guy is? I thought the patterns on it looked like a moth, so I poked it to see if it would fly away and it just fell onto the ground. I doesn't look much like a moth in the photos, but I put the phone way closer to take the picture than I was able to get my head to give it a close look.

Here's a few photos from a recent trip to Park City, Utah. On two days I had fun chasing a young bull moose around the Wasatch Mountains. He had an amazing sleek black coat, different from the ones around here that are more ratty brown with hoary hair in the shoulders and sides. We also visited Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake. It's a state park preserve, 5 x 15 miles of grasslands, some bird rich marshes, and rocky peaks that hold bighorn sheep. We saw lots of pronghorn, a couple coyotes and a sizeable herd of bison. Definitely worth a visit.
