They do. I heard it described as a "peent" sound. Then I found a sound clip and that's exactly what it sounds like.

Here's a fun one today, Western Kingbirds have a nest just outside my office window ~3 feet from my computer desk. I attached a wicker basket to the gutter downspout so the birds would use this protected site rather than in our open gutters. Our swamp coolers automatically flush water into the gutters which damages the bird's nest causing their brood to fail. The shaded basket nest protects from overheating and predatory ravens and magpies.

The Western Kingbirds just hatched young in the past 2-3 days. We can't see them yet, probably 4 or 5 young, would have to use a ladder 14 feet up.

I have three basket nests on the house, the other two have been used by doves this year.

Western Kingbirds are tyrant flycatchers in the genus Tyrannus. They are insectivores that aggressively defend their territories with raucous, angry vocalizations. They have a gray head and back, bright yellow underparts and white outer tail feathers. They are widespread in the dry lowlands throughout Colorado.

We like kingbirds and are happy to rent them the space.

A lot of people don't like the ground squirrels. We had quite a few around the house in Bailey. Haven't seen any here...most likely due to the heavy raptor population. I miss them. They were almost like pets.

Saw this guy cruising across the parking lot of CRC today. Think he was looking for shade, because he immediately went under my vehicle when I set him down.

EDIT: Looks like this guy was a Western Ornate Box Turtle.
