    Saw this guy cruising across the parking lot of CRC today. Think he was looking for shade, because he immediately went under my vehicle when I set him down.

    EDIT: Looks like this guy was a Western Ornate Box Turtle.

    We have always just called them sand turtles because they prefer they sandy type soils(CRC soils) vs the the other option on the prairie(clay). We have a couple that hang out around my shop where we hauled in sandy soil and see them on the dirt roads regularly, unfortunately often flat. They make great yard ornaments when you can get them to stick around.
