The wildlife here is completely different from what were accustomed to in the CO mountains...but it's way cool all the same. The crickets at night are deafening sometimes.

Nice photo, that's a Woodhouse's Toad, identified by the whitish line down the spine. We get them in the gardens around the house, and one big fat mama that hangs out at the back garage door to catch bugs under the light at night. Gentle bug eaters we try to protect along with tiger salamanders.

These birds were skinny dipping in the fountain bath in the flower garden this morning.

Here's, a young male Black-chinned Hummingbird diving right in.....

A little Calliope Hummingbird, the smallest bird species in mainland North America. He likely hatched and flew from NE ID or NW MT in the past couple months.

An immature Rufous Hummingbird gettin' down in the water. He's here on his southbound migration to Mexico from the Pacific Northwest, possibly Alaska or British Columbia.

And the same Rufous preening after bathing.

Thanks for the toad info. They must taste awful. When our little heeler was new to the place he picked one up in his mouth and promptly spit it out before rubbing his face on the dirt for about 5 mins. He saw that one the other night and wouldn't go near it.

Those hummer pics are fantastic. We need to put a water feature out for ours apparently. Looks like they enjoy that. I'm sure they do a lot of that in the creek that runs thru the property.

Most toads and some frogs have secretions that taste awful. Some are also poisonous if ingested.

I've seen some of your pictures like this before, and always wondered how one gets a picture like this. Seems like fish don't hold still and you can't see what you're shooting. Is it just luck through volume?
