Default Whole house water filter on a well- suggestions?

I'm moving soon, just north of Bennett, and will be sitting on a well. I dont want to have to deal with all the iron staining shit that goes along with wells.

    Been looking at buying:
    http://www.purewaterproducts.com/products/am001
    And
http://www.purewaterproducts.com/products/bw001 (media dependant on water test results)

I am expecting dissolved iron, maybe a little hydrogen sulfide, and a little sediment.

This is not a high volume household (just 2 of us, plus possibly 1 family member). I will be doing the install myself. I do not like the prospect of having to change expensive filter elements frequently. Anyone have any experience with these type of systems?

The bw001 looks just like what I have with my softener. Why not toss one of those in while you're at it. About the only thing I don't like about it, it's pretty loud when it flushes itself.

Are you going to test the water before hand? Why pay $$ if there's no iron or other items in the water.

    Absolutely

I have never seen a well NOT spit out iron. I am currently sitting in a friend's house 7 miles from mine, and he has a surplus of the red crap. It stains his tubs and toilets. Turns into red mud in the toilet tanks, etc

I've been in the water treatment industry for the past 12 years and would recommend reverse osmosis (RO). I recommend a small drinking water system to everyone I care about. The EPA allows certain things in our water that I don't want to drink including "acceptable concentrations" of toxic substances.

Those systems you listed are aeration systems, I'm assuming to drop out suspended solids. I wouldn't be comfortable with just that. It may or may not take out enough to prevent staining in laundry but I'd at least install an RO unit in the kitchen for drinking/cooking. It might not be a bad idea to have your water tested so you know what you want to remove. There could be all kinds of stuff; bacteria, nitrates, nitrites, fluoride, radionuclides, hydrogen sulfide (h2s), metals, VOCs, TTHMs, HAAs, etc. RO will get rid of it all but a whole house set-up might be kind of expensive. I've installed six small systems for drinking and cooking but never a full house unit. I use APEC Water and just checked their site and you can get "light commercial" set-ups up to 360 gpd for just over $1k. Not too bad. I'd check out their site, they make quality stuff and have other full house options, I didn't go through.
