    Default Thoughts on savage AIxs

Does any one own a savage Aixs? I am considering getting one as a back up if a friend or relative wants to hunt with me but doesn't have a rifle or a bigger caliber. I am considering 30-06 or .308 this also might be my wife's hunting rifle in case she decides to go one year. I know some come with scopes already mounted so that is a plus. I want something a little better than the Remington 770 or 787.

They are ok. I'd do a ruger American though. And I'm a savage fanboy.

The stock is very flimsy, the trigger will need a spring cut, they shoot fine, for what your looking for it'll be fine, but not a lot of fun to have range time with.

On on the other hand, ond of the mods did a write up on adding a stock and trigger and ending up w a budget precision gun.

The stock is indeed lacking. But the rest of the rifle can Perform quite well.

I'd personally hit the pawn shops ans used gun racks and look for a savage 10, 110 or equivalent. I have picked several up for under $250 in good shape. I have shot an Axis in .30-06 and it shot well. If I could pick up a regular Savage for less, I personally would go that route.

I'd go this route. There are a zillion aftermarket products if you decide to upgrade this or that, and for a hunting rifle, a blind magazine is just fine (I actually prefer it).
