My new house has wired window and door sensors on every exterior door and window. There are also quite a few motion sensors throughout the home. Pretty spiffy. Unfortunately, prior owners have jacked with the system and I no longer have a control pad to actually use the system. The folks who inhabited the house immediately prior to my ownership had a Honeywell touchscreen control module installed, but took it with them when they moved out.

All the wires from all the various sensors go to a GE-branded service panel in the basement utility room. It's a pretty daunting bundle of 24 gauge wires... probably about 3 inches diameter of some very thin wires. Some of the wires have resistors installed and some are grouped together. There are also a couple of non touchscreen control panels laying near the main box. I'm assuming these were installed somewhere in the house at some point in the past. The house has ADT stickers all over, but I'd really rather not deal with them because I'm not interested in spending $50/month for monitoring services.

I'm normally a pretty ambitious and competent DIYer, but I'm a bit overwhelmed with this project. I don't even know where to start.

With all the above as a preamble, is there anyone on the board who works in this field? I'd rather hire one of you guys than to just throw darts at Yellow Pages listings.

Thanks in advance.
