Had mine in Texas around '93. Instructor managed to blow half his trigger finger off in his youth. Learned to shoot with his middle finger.

Can't select the people that attend class, but you can try and pick the instructors. From what I've seen, a lot of people can know provide the training. When I took it a long time ago it was through the DOW at one of their locations in Littleton. While it's a basic introduction as it's supposed to be, I thought it was good at the time and very professional. It's what DOW requires with nothing more and nothing less. If I took it from somebody off the street in their basement who is licensed I wouldn't know what to expect nor what to pay which I've seen them charging whatever they want. Best bet is to go directly through the DOW to me.

Splays for the Bidet
Took mine on fort carson a few years ago. Instructor wasn't a Fudd, but the class was very boring. Best part was the young kids there with their dads, as it was good to see their excitement.

Mine was pretty good. Lots of boring stuff, but good info as well. No fudd talk so to speak.. Lots of stupid questions from the students though.. How many rounds can you legally have? Answer: As much as the shocks on your car can handle... How many guns can you have? Stuff like that....

a cool, fancy title
Took mine at the DOW headquarters in Denver years ago. It was the biggest waste of time and the whole gaggle of instructors were Fudds. Told dumb and inaccurate stories almost the entire time.
Scared the crap out of me that there are that many dumb people out in the woods.
I took my test up to be scored and got 100%. There were a dozen plus people that had to be sent back to their table to change their answers because they got below the minimum score...multiple times. I recall one guy that had to get his test re-checked at least 3 times.
Then, when we shot at a 8.5x11" paper with a picture on an elk on it 10ft away, there were more than a few people that never hit the paper, even more that never hit the picture of the elk, and only a few that I saw that had a nice grouping of vital shots.
Oh my.

At mine we had 3 instructors. One was in charge of making sure you knew how to check the chamber in every action type the 3 of them owned. During the shooting event they allowed students to try a 30-30 or an ak for 1 round. They also did a mock bird hunt.
