    Default Scope for RPR noob

Ok, it's been asked and answered a 100 times over, I know but it's a bit overwhelming for a noob. Also, if it should go in the optics forum MODs can move but I think this place gets more foot traffic.

A Ruger Precision Rifle is lacking from the gun collection so hopefully this spring I can pull the trigger on 6.5CM. (Honestly, my wife is more interested in getting into the precision game than me but it would be fun.)

So, I just scored a X-mas gift card for Amazon that gets me close enough to look for a scope. Looking at Burris or Vortex but the HST seems a bit closer in the price range of $500-1000 for me.
First, as a complete noob with no scope background other than an MTAC for 3Gun, the first question is MOA or Mil-dot. Seems per my research that the preference is Mil-Dot for this game.
Second, toss me some Amazon options in that price range and why. (I'm obviously leaning towards the HST https://www.amazon.com/Vortex-6-24x5...ex+hst+6-24x50 but I'll take recommendations)

    Thanks and Merry Christmas!

I got a RPR a few weeks ago, will likely put a Vortex Viper PST on it, not sure of exact model yet.

The Burris XTRII is a superior optic to the Vortex. Clearer glass, truer color, less haze, especially at higher mag. I can see better at 20x with the XTRII than at 24x with the Vortex.

Mil for sure. The SCR reticles http://www.burrisoptics.com/reticles/scr-mil are awesome. I'd suggest you look at the 4-20 as it is about perfect and you will rarely even use 20x.

I'm a big vortex fan. Their mid range offerings are probably no better than other companies when it gets down to it. What other companies don't offer, however, is the ability for you to use that scope as a baseball bat, sell it to me, and then let me exchange it for a brand new equivalent model if they cannot repair. Or, if you are walking along and slip and fall and trash the scope? Replaced.

MOA or Mil is more personal preference than anything, but you need your knobs to match the reticle (no Mil ret/MOA knobs). I prefer Mil, though I suspect it's more due to familiarity than anything.

Burris Warranty: http://www.burrisoptics.com/customer-service/warranty can't be beat.

I had an MTAC 6-24 that got damaged being dropped 50' over a rock edge. No longer made so they sent me a XTRII 5-25 instead. That is a 2x upgrade BTW.

Didn't realize they'd finally caught up to Vortex in this regard.

In such a case, I say go with whatever is best bang for buck on features!

Who else has this sort of warranty?

Note, Vortex is revamping the PST line. Launch in spring. May be able to find a good deal on a closeout. As MarkCO already stated, the Burris has superior glass to the Gen 1 PST, but it is normally a few hundred more last I looked.

They have had that for at least the last 3 years. I can't say when they improved it for sure, but they have said it is entrenched now and goes back to old optics as well. Leupold, Bushnell have those types of warranties as well. Swarovski, Nightforce, S&B, Kahles do not, and with most of those, abuse is excluded. Good luck trying to get fast turn-around.

Vortex and Burris, with both I have seen them ship out a loaner optic next day for hunters with an optic issue. That is service. I own a few Vortex optics as well, but it has to be something neither company offers for me to consider anything else.

The new Vortex PST Get II looks very nice indeed but will probably be hard to find for a while. On the flip side there should be some good deals to be had on the Gen I.
As stated by others their warranty/customer service is awesome.
