Vagcom is preferable, but there's two ways to release the EPB according to youtube.
Mechanically (remove EPB motor)

I have the Ross-Tech Hex-V2 VCDS if anyone is in need.
For anyone watching, I also have a real Ross-Tech VAG cable setup available for use around Parker. (HEX-COM to use with or without a USB serial dongle.)

This. I've had the car for about 2 years but it is white. It has a spikes billet plate holder.
I bought a Foxwell NT510 for the EPB. Ran me about $150.
