Default Hello and Questions about COS IDPA

    Hello all,

I'm Shane and I am new to shooting sports and Colorado in general. My family and I moved to Fountain back in August and I am ready to get into some shooting sports. I have a carry gun that I want to use for IDPA, it's a Sig P290RS. I've been reading rules and the P290RS would fall into BUG, but it looks like y'all (at Front Range) don't run that category, at least I didn't see it on the website.

Would I be correct in assuming that if I use that gun that I will be placed into CCP? I'm wondering how that would work since the Sig has only 6-rounds as a single stack 9mm. I'm too green as a shooter to worry about winning anything so as long as I can fit into a class somewhere, I'm ready to play. I hope to shoot the third Sunday match this month in COS and look forward to the opportunity and meeting some of you. I'll be along for the new participant class as well before the match, and i did join the IDPA today.

I don't know why CCP would not be allowed.

My guess is being a new division, nobody has shot it yet...

Get in touch with MickGIS here. He is the head dude for Front Range IDPA.

I'm sure that little pistol will fit into at least one or two divisions. Might not be competitive due to the low capacity but I'm sure you can shoot a match with it.

Off the top of my head I want to say there's even a category for "not for score" that would let you shoot just about any handgun you want just for fun.

CCP should not be an issue with 6rd mags. Division capacity is more of a max than a minimum. Since your mags are 6rd you are allowed to carry 3rd mag on belt. Could also buy 8rd mags.

MickGIS will find a spot for you.

    Hi Shane,

FRIDPA supports all IDPA Divisions and when the 2017 IDPA rules are official we will also offer the Pistol Caliber Carbine. Our website does reference the BUG division, take a look at the screen shot below (Division #6).

This time of year weather can play havoc with our matches so please check here and WWW.FRIDPA.com for a match cancellation announcement.

    Cheers,
    Mick

I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Thanks for the info. I'm hoping the next event doesn't get cancelled, i'm looking forward to trying it out. Oh, and i did see it in the body of the page, but didn't notice BUG listed on the side where it said what ammo you needed for the event. I assumed with it not there you guys weren't supporting that category for the event. Thanks again!
