Default Fire at Pawnee today. Be careful people.

We worked 2 fires today. One at the Grasslands and one East of Nunn. Both started by shooters. The one fire by Nunn was started by tannerite. Yes the people told us how they started it. Tannerite does cause fires no matter what the label says. ( Yes I know its not supposed to)
The othe fire was just east of 96 and 67. We were taking incoming rounds while working the fire. There were a ton of people out there today. I didnt get any pictures while we working the fire, but it was moving. The paper is saying a few hundred acres, but Im pretty sure it was probably in the 1500 to 1800 acre range.

Be careful. We havent had moisture in a long time.

Are the shooters and or tannerite ones being held liable for response cost?

Not shooter related, but a cigarette one. North of 392, east of timberline. That one was maybe 20' from peoples dwellings.

I know there was a fire NE of DIA a few months ago that was caused by some retards messing with Tannerite and diesel and/or gasoline. Last I heard, they were still pursuing charges on that one.

Fire got some of Colorado Clays equipment, some fences (some within a few feet of homes), and lots of grazing land.

Saw first hand today that Tula .223 sparks when shot into the dirt (missing bowling pins). Crazy how many individual sparks you see when shooting in the dark. Be careful indeed.

I hadnt ever been to the Baker Draw range before I drove past it this weekend. It was absolutely packed. I could see the ranger, he didnt look concerned that there was a large fire going just over the hill. We were taking incoming rounds while fighting the fire. I presume from the same people who started it. Know your target and whats beyond it. Simple concept.. I thought.

No to start anything.... but I'd be very curious to see what rounds were used and/or what the Tannerite (the brand name, not generic "tannerite") was sitting on (rocky area, metal plate, etc). The science just does not support the Tannerite (name brand, not generic "tannerite") being flammable. It would defy the laws of physics. But I am a retard at times... Don't blame the Tannerite, blame the fools that weren't ready to put out a fire they caused.

Speaking of, I know grass fires can move VERY fast... but how many of you go to the range with some water, etc? When I use any sort of explosives (yes, I have friends with the appropriate licenses) we always spray down the area around the targets.

People don't realize how easy it is to start a fire in a dry situation with lead/steel hitting rocks. Even small pebbles in dirt/sand can cause sparks. Sometimes, even laying prone and shooting certain types may cause fireflash from the muzzle and can catch dry stuff on fire....

I was watching a Hunters Ed class this past weekend and there was even a fire out on 94... dry times.

THANK YOU for fighting the fires. I would think they would've shut down the range so you wouldn't be taking incoming... wow.

I'm amazed that the rangers weren't shutting down the shooters to make things safer for you guys. I'd have to imagine that would quickly become a priority.

3 fires at Baker Draw today. ALL caused by shooters. I doubt they were on started on purpose, but is was 60 degrees, less than 15% humidity, the wind was blowng and no moisture in a long time.

Be careful out there. The forest service guys I talked to said they will be pushing for a shooting ban until the weather changes. I dont know if they can push the ban or not, but they want to.

And before someone asks how do I know they were shooter caused... sometimes they tell us, sometimes the fire starts just past their targets. Its pretty easy to tell. The are today was packed, packed with people. Bakers draw range was packed, both sides of 96 were packed, many of the north/south roads from hwy 14 to 96 had shooters. Everyone was out today. It was a nice warm day.
