    Default Good turkey units

So this will be my first season going after a Colorado turkey. I got introduced to turkey hunting the past couple of years in SD. So I am starting from scratch here and haven't had any time to do some scouting. Can I get some suggestions for a couple units to look at for spring turkey? I'm willing to do some hiking and sleep under the stars.

I was looking at possibly unit 501

I was over in the Wet Mountain Valley and saw lots of Turkeys strutting. Most were just a mile or so just south of Cotapaxi

Was coming back from Tulsa on Highway 86 on the hill east of Castle Rock.
Traffic stopped to take pictures of at least 30 Turkeys along the road.
Had not seen that since they opened that area for the new development.

Rampart Range is a good place but turkey hunting in co is not very good. I have never seen so many turkeys in my life until I came to montana. They are so thick its not even hunting its shooting. a turkey tag here is $6.50 for resident and I can buy 15 a year LOL. I laugh when watching the outdoor channel and those guys have calls, decoys, full cammo, sent lock ect. Hell I just keep a gun in the truck drive down the road until I see one i want and shoot it.

They are all over Deer Creek Canyon area but I don't think there are any public hunting areas around there. My dad used to have a house up there and the Turkeys crossed the drive way by the hundreds every day. During spring and fall season we would just watch hunting on TV then walk out in the drive way and popped one we liked. Neighbors were always pissy in that area though. Didn't like us shooting their "pets" I guess. The DOW was called a few times and he would just come up and ask us to buy more tags to thin out the area.
