Appears one guy has a 5.45 rifle with a can on it in the 3rd picture. That or whatever muzzle device he is using goes half-way up his front sight. I was also pleasantly surprised how well my SLR104 ran suppressed. Much quieter than I expected it to be, especially with a 30 cal suppressor.

Personally I would choose x39 it hits way harder and penetrates barriers way better. Imho from what I have seen x39 suppresses just fine.

Would it not also be a consideration of local ammo availability, in case they had need? Not sure how much 5.45 proliferation is in Syria, but 7.62x39 is a known attainable.

Looking at the pic's I get the impression, with the wide variety of gear and guns that the photos are from some sort of advertising campaign catalog.

It could just be weapons choice (if they're given a choice). Kinda like how a lot of spec op guys will opt for the .45 even though 9mm is the caliber of choice of the military. Just a thought. I'm sure it's a multifaceted answer. Maybe it's that, plus suppression, plus ammo availability, etc.
I don't make the rules. I just think them up and write them down.
