^ I'm looking at OTF because you can grip the knife better than out the side JMHO

For lack of a better explanation, the few OTF knives I've handled just seemed a little flimsy. Of course they could have been lower end knives. Maybe I should handle a few big name ones and see what I think.

I don't think it's just you, I've handled a couple microtechs and they felt flimsy, probably good for poking someone (which may be what they are designed for), but didn't seem robust enough for any hard use, however, I'm also accustomed to using ZT knives so that could be part of it.

From what I read lately a little play in the blade of an OTF is common. The videos I've watched on the Microtechs the lockup seems solid once they're deployed. I'm interested in the UTX-85, seems like a good OTF. Unfortunately the ones that have popped up in the trading post are'nt just plain clip points.

The surplus store at Broadway and 285 had several Benchmade autos in a case.

For OTF try a Microtech Halo V or another reputable single action OTF.

You will find the double actions not as sturdy, but more fun to play with. Even the Bechmade Infidel does not stand up to hard use like a single action OTF does.

If you just want a cheap OTF to play with the "lightning" are the best of the cheap-o ones.

I have one if anyone wants to check it out in person before plunking down $30-$40 of their hard earned cash.

I picked it up to see what I thought about carrying an OTF before I decide if I want to spend the money on something like a Microtech or Benchmade.

I ordered an OTF today from https://ravencresttactical.com/ you can customize the looks if you like and if you sign up you get a discount on your order. I paid $156.95 for a Titan model with shipping. It seemed like Microtechs were never getting back in stock !

I think there was a guy with some of those at the last Tanner show.

I’m still trying to decide what I really want or if I want anything at all. I’ve carried my cheap OTF for a bit but have been carrying a cheap side folding auto for a few weeks now.

I carry a knife daily as s tool mostly for cutting open boxes, stripping wire if my strippers aren’t handy, and occasionally scraping a little paint off an information tag or scraping a bit of old gasket material off.

Might just ditch the whole auto knife deal and start carrying my Benchmade again.
