Auto knives

Is there any significant difference between an auto knife and a good assisted-opening knife (already legal to carry)? For example, I have a Kizer Gemini, an H&K/Benchmade Nitrous Blitz, and a Kershaw Blur. Different mechanisms but all super fast, especially the Kizer. What does an auto offer I don't already have?

In all honesty, compared to most assisted opening knives, the auto doesn't give you much more.

Since I've learned to carry and deploy my EDC knife off-hand (Sog Flash-II), and carry it tip up and oriented for opening quickly with a thumb flick, it's actually a better setup than using my Gerber 06 Auto.

When I didn't carry a gun, and carried the Gerber in my right pocket, it worked. It's clumsy in my left because the button is on the wrong side for fast simple deployment.

The potential to spend more money.

My wife carries a kershaw, that she handles like a chef , favoring it over an auto opening one.

Have to agree. I'm faster with my VECP than my Eagle auto. More about just having one.

I suspect people are faster with their assisted knives partially out of familiarity as that is what they've been using most.

Agree plus the autos that I have or are familiar with have safeties as well.

Someone I had dinner with last night brought their microtech. First firing and it malfunctioned, I was not impressed. I was able to fix it and it was fine all night. I will like my assisted ZT

Like guns that are kept in one's pocket, then need cleaning. Lint and who knows what, have a tendency to jam or slow the action .

This otf was less than 48 hours old. Maybe I'm just a pussy and limp twisted it. But I was very disappointed
