Anyone do small appliance repair, like microwaves? Our GE micro is doing weird shit a few moths after the extended warranty expired (it's 4.5 years old). Son of a...

    What's it doing?

I've repaired both my oven and microwave control panels by resoldering cracked component joints, cleaning connectors.

Hell, that's half the trouble with a lot of older electronics that were waved soldered and see repeated flexing.

I fixed the leaky fridge dispenser by replacing the ice door flapper and parts kit. Thanks Youtube!

If it's doing weird control panel crap, post up the model number and we can look up part to see how reasonable it is vs replacing the whole thing.

Sadly, replacing the micro USB on my wife's old tablet did not bring it back from the brink. Then again, it's tough as sh*t to micro solder without a proper rework station, correctly sized iron, and microscope. All I had was the 4x zoom on my phone camera and a filed down iron tip for my good Weller station.

P.S. GE is pretty much banned from our house. Nothing but trouble with their crap for 30 years.

It's not heating anything up, but all the lights and fans work fine.

Another thing it does is sometimes the fan and light will run nonstop and I have to hit the "Power Saver" switch or unplug it to get them to shut off. This is intermittent though.

I'll have to get the model number when I get home later today.

Had this issue on our microwave. Check the connector from the door. On our machine it was being slightly unplugged from opening due to the wires being short.

Cut the cord off and use it as a Faraday Cage and go buy a new one.

I worked on our built in microwave oven combo, otherwise it was replace both. The magneteon was shot and a new one got sourced from an online appliance parts store.

But if the wave does not match anything then toss it and get a new one. The insides run on "kill you right there" type voltage and require special handling. In addition the diode in there is a bi0tch to test and requires a power supply or the test.
But if you are curious go on Youtube and there is plenty of videos.

Turned out to be an $8 door switch. We have hundreds of these same switches at work for slot machine doors, so it's actually a $0 door switch.

I'm glad I tinkered with it and didn't toss it in the dumpster.

Was it the one that connects where the door swings out?
