Reticles, what's the going opinion (scr, h59 or similar)?

Looking for a new scope for the 6.5 RPR. Like to stay under $1700. Looking at reticles, it seems they have gone from very complex/busy back to more simple. Will be going mil/mil. What's the concensus with the SCR, EBR-2c or any other reticle?

Both are very good reticles. I think it is really a personal preference. Everyone has their favorite. Most will get the job done. I would recommend trying to look through some scopes first and see what you like. Try to head to a match, everybody is usually cool with letting new shooters check out their gear. That way you get some 1st hand info and you can see the differences in glass and construction.

I like the SCR and other reticles with 2/10 markings. They can help with fine tuning wind holds. That being said, I have a Gen2 XR and a EBR-2c now. I would prefer the EBR-7 or the SCR to get the .2 mil wind holds.

If you plan on PRS style shooting the X-mas tree reticles can help with speed. I rarely use the hold-over portion on mine, and dial my elevation. I tried the H59 and didn't care for it much.

A wise man told me once, "There are no prefect scopes". They are all a little bit of a compromise.

Or buy what fits the budget, get knowledgeable with it. Then Upgrade. I like the SCR but it's too confusing for my eye. I run a Steiner 5x G2 Mil/Mil FFP , simple is as simple does for now.

I have been using a standard military mil dot for years. I just took the plunge on a razor gen 2 ebr2c. My amg with ebr7 is not due for delivery until Feb 2018, so I opted to try out the ebr2c. I find the h59 way too busy. It seems a lot of optics are starting to come with Xmas trees that are simpler than the h59 which is exciting as there will be a flavor for everyone. What I like about vortex is if you just want to try the reticle. You can get the same ebr2c in a viper gen 2 for cheap just to try it out if you are unsure. I wish the ebr7 was an option on both the viper and razor gen 2 line as well.

Most all of what needs to be said has been said, the one thing I'll throw in there is that if you start out now with something subtended in .2 instead of .5 it may serve you well as you progress as it's easier to fine tune your wind holds a bit. It took me a while to get fast with a .2 subtended reticle when I first switched, that said, I won't go back. I started with a Gen 1 Razor with what is now the ebr2c, then went to an SCR, and finally have gotten to the high end stuff and now have 2 Kahles 624i's with the AMR which is a Christmas tree style all subtended in .2 (elevation and wind) and it's just dots so you can see through it quite well. I still own the previous scopes and shoot them often, but my main match guns wear the Kahles scopes.

That said, the Gen2 Razor is one of the most popular scopes out there for good reason, the main reason I run the Kahles and not the Razor is the reticle, once you get used to using a .2 subtended reticle, it's hard to go back.

One other one to look at and most either love it or hate is is the Tremor 3, once you know how to use it, it's extremely intuitive. But the learning curve can be a bit intimidating as it takes a bit of math to get everything figured out on it. This is probably the only other Reticle I would consider switching to, and I've been thinking really hard about it.

I really like the .2 subtended reticles as well. The SCR is great. I am going to give the Tremor 3 a try in my next scope. It is really nice to use from what little time I've had behind one.

Look in to SWFA ss scopes. I did my homework and picked up a 10x mil quad /mil turret for $327 shipped. Same scope Tasco sent to Navy Surface Warfare Crane years ago. Beefy scope, and tracking is dead nut on.

XC7 covered it well. For me, it comes down to the speed at which you need to shoot. If PRS or similar is your intent, the Tremor 3 is the shiznit. It's almost certainly what will be in my next scope. If you have time to dial for elevation, I'm a big fan of any 0.2 reticle. I'm pretty sure I have 4 scopes with the SCR...
