Default Private Utility Locate company near/around Parker

I need to redo my sprinkler lines at the new house and have to trench. Anyone know of a good locator company?

CBUD/811 will only mark up to the road/property entrance and I need on-property locating.

If you're on IREA, they will do the electric as I recall, at least they did when I destroyed my back yard 10 years ago.

Call your utility companies. The 811 is more of a dispatcher of locators. By that I mean you call them, they call the locators of utilities. Each utility contracts with their own locators. If you call for locates and they dont locate in a week, you probably wont get yelled at. Just make sure you have a ticket number, and a site sketch.

    Since when ?
UNCC (811) or 1-800-922-1987 will accept requests from property owners, I deal with weeding out notifications from UNCC daily from homeowners/property owners putting in porches, irrigation, flagpoles and so on. And they request their entire lot for a flagpole.

Someone is blowing smoke up your posterior and giving you bad information.

UNCC gets paid by the utility companies or other entities per locate request they forward to the utility, entity or their contracted locator service. So, UNCC will forward any and all locate requests to the utility or entity that falls within the utility or entities prescribed boundaries, and even a lot that are outside them.

That is what I always thought. So I went to call 811, it was after hours and not an emergency, so the little recording said to go to their website and enter a ticket. So I did. Before allowing me to enter the ticket, a screen comes up and says (among other things):

Many utility companies only mark the location of their lines up to your property boundary. Utility lines inside your property boundaries are called "private lines" or "private facilities" and you are responsible for being sure that the lines inside of your property boundaries are properly marked. There are companies who will mark the lines inside of your property boundaries but they do charge a fee for that service. Please CLICK HERE for a list of private locate companies. The failure to mark lines inside of your property boundaries and the cutting or damage to those lines can result in serious personal injury or death. You will be responsible for any damage to any lines on your property regardless of who marks the lines.
I called UNCC today, and was told "We cannot guarantee that the utilities will mark within your property lines. The request can be made, but the individual companies do not have to mark your private lines - and any many cases they wont. You need to have a private locate company mark inside your property lines if you want to make sure they get marked."

I have a ticket in, with a request to mark down the side of the house and in the back, so we will see what happens.

The only thing "private" that belongs to "you" on your property is the sewer lateral. That runs from the main in the street to your house. The gas company owns up to and including the meter as does the electric company and those will all get marked. The phone and cable company own up to the junction box on your house and those will also get marked.

The sewer lateral is pretty easy to figure out if they do not mark up to your foundation.

I was a utility locator some years ago. What has been said above is completely true. The utility company (Century Link, Comcast, Xcel, etc.) own the cables or pipes up to and including the meter. It is their responsibilty to have the locates performed within 3 days after you call at no charge to you.

If they need into your backyard or through a fence, make sure it's unlocked, and you don't have dogs outside, or be home when they do he work. If the gate is locked, or dogs are present, they won't do the locate. I've been bit once, and trapped in a backyard due to dogs. And I refused to jump a fence to do the locate.

I'm not sure who does the locating where you live, it might be USIC, formerly SafeSite. If you do have private utilities in your yard (wired walkway lighting, underground power to an outbuilding, etc.) they can locate that as well, for a fee. I did private locates fairly often.

Also, it will help you later to bury a tracer wire with your new sprinkler system that the locating transmitter can clamp to. Just in case more digging is needed. Or draw up good blueprints of where it is buried. Use distance from sidewalk, tree, house wall, driveway, etc.

Xcel marked this morning. From the distro box up by the road, to about 5' around it - and out to the road. Nothing where I asked them to.
