    Default Basic laptop repair

Looking for someone to do some basic case repair on a 2016 Dell Inspiron.

There is a screw that came out that holds the two main pieces of the case together and my 10 year old son attempted to fix. I think the screw is missing and the others are somewhat stripped. Something is in the way of snapping the case back together and I think it's the cable for the LCD, if you try to force the case together the LCD goes out.

Basically I think it needs to be somewhat disassembled and then put back together without whatever is in the way. I don't have a good way to get the tiny stripped screws out or any replacements.

I'm more than happy to pay for the work, I'm just trying to find someone who will do a good job.

When you say the two main pieces of the case, are you talking about the bottom portion which comes off and exposes the RAM and such? Or the lid and body? the top of the guts (keyboard side)?

    Which model in particular?

Even if not the exact model, should follow closely to this tutorial:

Went by a local PC repair place and he said it would be close to $200 to fix. I just want to get it back together, even if it's partially with tape. The issue is that I can't get it snapped back together properly without further disassembly and a couple of the tiny screws are stripped.

I've had this happen (case separation). I pull the drive, salvage the RAM and pick up another used laptop for $150. Short of pulling the case apart and super gluing in some new plastic support pieces inside the case to glue the case shell onto, there isn't much that you can do.

I know yours is only a little over a year old, but most laptops are a three year replaceable item. For kids, a $49 Kindle Fire is a good, inexpensive device to let them surf the web, watch movies or listen to music. Inside of a case, a Kindle can take more of a beating than most laptops.

I get it, my main issue is this is still a currently shipping, entry/mid-level gaming machine at just under $1000. I'd hate to have to trash it due to the case. By 2016 I meant late December so just 6 months old. :-)

I'm considering documenting well and posting "as is" on eBay. The guy last night thought it would bring $5-600 in its current shape.

Do you not have any small screwdrivers? If so, have you tried removing the screws while exerting good down pressure?

Can you get a close up of the stripped screws?

If he put it back together without properly routing the LCD cord, all that needs to be done is get it open and reroute it and close up properly. That's the rub though, getting it apart without further damage to screws or case -- depending on what he did.
