I've had this happen (case separation). I pull the drive, salvage the RAM and pick up another used laptop for $150. Short of pulling the case apart and super gluing in some new plastic support pieces inside the case to glue the case shell onto, there isn't much that you can do.

I know yours is only a little over a year old, but most laptops are a three year replaceable item. For kids, a $49 Kindle Fire is a good, inexpensive device to let them surf the web, watch movies or listen to music. Inside of a case, a Kindle can take more of a beating than most laptops.
