Default Byers Canyon Shooting Range Reopens

    http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news...ew-renovations

HOT SULPHUR SPRINGS, Colo. – Six months after it closed for the season, and after expansion renovations, the Byers Canyon Shooting Range is back open for shooters.

The popular shooting site closed for the season on Jan. 9, and its usual mid-April opening was delayed as crews expanded the amenities at the shooting range.

People heading out to practice or sight-in their rifles will find new shooting benches, four new rifle lanes, a 50-yard lane for .22-caliber rifles and two new handgun lanes, including one 100-yard handgun range.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife says the new additions were aimed at improving safety and improving users’ experience.

"It’s not too far of a drive for many folks, even those coming from Denver," said CPW’s property technician, Doug Gillham. "Considering what the range offers, both before and now after the improvements, it's worth the drive."

Does anyone know if they have rifle ranges linger than 200 after this renovation?

    Nothing mentioned.

    From: http://www.outdoornews.com/2012/03/2...ange-now-open/

Located west of Hot Sulphur Springs, the range is shut down after hunting season to protect wintering big game from disturbances. It stays closed until the herds are able move back to higher ground, usually in early to mid-April, however Hot Sulphur Springs wildlife managers opened it to the public a little early this year due to the recent warm weather.

The range is very popular with sportsmen, and shooters from as far away as the Denver metro and other distant areas find the longer drive to use the facility worthwhile.

"It's a great range, and we welcome all sportsmen to come visit," said Area Wildlife Manager Lyle Sidener.

Sidener reminds shooters that they should follow all posted range rules, such as keeping their firearms pointed downrange, and cleaning up after they are done.

The range is open seven days a week from sunrise to sunset, except during the winter, and includes five centerfire rifle ranges of 25, 100, and 200 yards, one .22 caliber rifle range, one shotgun, and one handgun range. The range also includes straw bales for archery. One rifle range has wheel chair access to the 25 and 100 yard target range.

Shooters are reminded that only paper targets are allowed, with an exception for clay birds for shotgun, and archery targets. Breakable targets are not allowed.

The range has limited supervision however volunteers are typically present to assist shooters and provide some enforcement of range rules. Shooters who violate the range rules or conduct themselves in an unsafe manner can be asked to leave, fined or both.

A portable toilet and a trash dumpster are also located at the range.
