    Default GPS/topo Mapping software

Hello guys, I'm looking for suggestions for some topo mapping software. I need to do novice surveying and I'll probably use it to plan trips as well. Measuring distance between to points, sq. ft./ acreage, slopes, depth, etc.

Both Caltopo.com and Google Earth are free. The former is all web based and lets you use different base layers for excellent topo maps. You can download and upload tracks, etc. You get a few more features for a small fee--worth supporting IMHO. The Google Earth program is better for the aerial views based on sat photos. Either one will let you do the things you mentioned.
