Just practice bugging out. Call it a camping trip if you have family. Learn mountain man skills. If you can hunt, fish and trap, you will always have some meat. Buy a piece of land in the mountains, that nobody really wants and build a small bunker on it. Or find a place with a mine shaft that goes horizontal. Living in a hole in the ground would be horrible compared to a nice warm house. Better than dying in a nuked out metropolis I suppose. If they did it in the 1860's, so can you!

I have a long way to go in the prepping plan...i was on ttack then had 2 kids and realized im screwed anyway because i would die for those little suckers one way or the other...so i just need stuff to stay chill for a while until they grow up and give me more hands to help out...my wife working downtown Denver and riding public transportation also doesnt help things..and the fact she knows how to shoot but cant and wont carry. And no matter how many times i tell her to take some shoes/boots to leave at work instead of only having heels...at this point i have more problems than solutions. Best luck to all

Sounds like you have been reading of the same SHTF threads I have.

Not sure what "mountains" they plan on living in. Forest Service, squatting on private property, BLM, open space, KOA...? Not a lot of edibles up here in the winter. Plus there is the little things like snow and wind.

What always concerns me about those plans is for those that live where the unwashed millions in urban areas plan to "bug out" to... I live rural, so most scenarios would have me "bugging in"... and I have to include plans to deal with the possible situation that someone decides my spread is what they need. My place in Penrose was very defensible (house on a hill, 360 degree views of approach, etc), but was not easily self-sustainable.
Here in Canton, I'll have to get creative with defense (and I have some of de fence work, too), but it's much more self sustainable... greenhouse, garden, chickens, cattle... that in itself will make us a target

Natural disasters are a possible exception (i.e. Harvey)
