You ever been sitting in traffic, or in a line at grocery store.......and just secretly wish the shit would just hit the fan for the good of humanity?

    I have, but....shhhhh.

I expected some joviality when I posted this thought, and that's cool....I do it all the time. But when you seriously take some time and think about never seeing your spouse or children again and all of your focus goes to survival and self preservation, are you ready for that?

Happens to people every day. It's called divorce.

Just curious...how do you think that would be good for humanity?

It's easy to fantasize about a good outcome, but realistic outcomes are probably going to be completely different than what you or I might hope would happen.

In my fantasy, leftist thought would be wiped from the face of the earth and everyone who survived would see the world like I do. Highly unlikely that would happen. In a true, game-changing, all-out survival scenario I figure I'll last about as long as the average person. Maybe a little longer just based on where I live. But not long enough to see it through.

I definitely don't see any good coming from something like that. At all.

    Nope.

If I had uninterrupted cable TV coverage of the event, and lived in middle-of-nowhere South Pacific? I guess that might prove interesting.

However, I don't own a TV and I live in the midst of humanity. As such, no, I don't wish for that at all. I lived in South Florida in 2004 for three hurricane impacts on my town (Stuart, FL), excrement, to a degree, hit the Westinghouse, it's not fun. I lived through Marcos declaring martial law in the Philippines in the early 70's. It's not fun, not even a little. My wife was living in Jakarta in '97 when the financial collapse there happened and Suharto was shown the door. Other members here can speak on that topic as well but no, not remotely something to look forward to and the reset isn't guaranteed.

The rampant SHTF fantasies on online forums tend to assume that only "other" people are going to suffer during societal woes. Unless you have a Gulfstream fueled up to wisk you out of the country (and ample space for the pilots extended family as well...), and large sums of money to bribe every single official en route to the airport, "other" is every one of us.

But, having said that, I do look forward to cable TV coverage of all the prepared folks living in the mountains in February out of their Maxpedition go-bag with five ESEE fixed blade knives and 2 miles worth of green paracord.

Sounds like you have been reading of the same SHTF threads I have.

Not sure what "mountains" they plan on living in. Forest Service, squatting on private property, BLM, open space, KOA...? Not a lot of edibles up here in the winter. Plus there is the little things like snow and wind.

What always concerns me about those plans is for those that live where the unwashed millions in urban areas plan to "bug out" to... I live rural, so most scenarios would have me "bugging in"... and I have to include plans to deal with the possible situation that someone decides my spread is what they need. My place in Penrose was very defensible (house on a hill, 360 degree views of approach, etc), but was not easily self-sustainable.
Here in Canton, I'll have to get creative with defense (and I have some of de fence work, too), but it's much more self sustainable... greenhouse, garden, chickens, cattle... that in itself will make us a target

Natural disasters are a possible exception (i.e. Harvey)

Not preciously, but when I look at the direction all governments seem to be heading and the emergence of greater and greater technology that can be used against us, I do think the only way liberty is going to survive is if humanity is knocked back to the level of, say, the beginning of the 20th century (along with the elimination of millions of what Ayn Rand would call "looters" and "moochers").

I will admit there have been times I've thought it would have been a good idea if God would have simply sterilized Noah and his family (then I feel guilty for a bit).

Peterson has a good bit to say on the hatred of existence (from his excellent "Psychological Significance of the Biblical Stories").
Modern liberalism is based on the idea that reality is obligated to conform to one's beliefs because; "I have the right to believe whatever I want".

"Everything the State says is a lie, and everything it has it has stolen.

"Every time something really bad happens, people cry out for safety, and the government answers by taking rights away from good people."
    -Penn Jillette
