Been debating about installing one on my wife's vehicle as well. She gets jealous sometimes because my truck has it factory installed. I'll likely do the install myself because I don't like butt connectors and I totally despise those stupid scotch locks some installers use. I much prefer to solder and heat shrink all of my connections for the sake of reliability.

I Think they have a OBD 2 remote! Just plug it in...

Some common sense finally from the legislature:

"It won't be a crime next winter to leave cars running unattended in Colorado-- if they have remote-start systems.
Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper has signed into law an end to the state's full ban on so-called "puffing," or leaving a car running while the driver is away.
The practice is common on frigid Colorado winter mornings, but can leave the driver with a ticket because "puffing" makes cars vulnerable to theft.
Legislative analysts say there are about 50 "puffing" tickets issued per year across Colorado.
The new law exempts car owners with remote-start systems. Drivers must keep the keyless start fob far enough away from the car that the vehicle can't be moved.

The change takes effect in August."

Read in the description, " DR-3400 remote add-on module, which allows you to manage your vehicle's existing remote start system from your compatible AppleĀ® iOS or Android..."

Sounds like you need an existing remote start system for this to work.......

Yep. They also recommend "professional installation". If it simply plugged into the OBD2 connector you think they'd be touting that as a selling point.

RSG Off-road in Lakewood. I believe they started out as Remote Start Guys(RSG) and have gone into the off-road scene as well. Great shop and great service.

A few years back I tried to get the factory remote start for my truck. They discontinued the part number after the truck was 3 years old. I had tried when I first got the truck and the dealer dropped the ball. So found an after market one that was plug and play. I found a place that will program the hardware for your specific vehicle. Now you press the lock 3 times and it starts right up. Super clean. No splicing. Easy to reverse if it fails. Guys on Amazon and Ebay sell them as kits with the module, adaptor and programming for about 150ish. Sometimes they need a VIN as the programming can get complicated with modern anti-theft. Sorry don't have the brand or where I bought it. Smart folks will figure it out. It took less than an hour to install. Got factory RS on my 2014 Silverado and love it! I start my truck at work from my cellphone before I even leave my desk. Great in the winter to warm it up and melt shit off. Only drawback is it only runs 10 minutes, and I can only run it twice, so 20 minutes max. Which is long enough, really. Comes in real handy since I work at night, it can be damn cold and snowy at 6:30am in our parking lot.
