AULT, Colo. – The Baker Draw Designated Shooting Area will be temporarily closed for up to ten days starting August 14, 2017, for improvement work at the site. A Forest Service contractor will be adding aggregate to the site, as well as adding target lines to make it easier for recreational sport shooters to safety display their target.
“Although it is an inconvenience to temporarily close this site, I believe the improvements will be welcomed by the recreational shooting community. I thank them for their patience during this work,” Pawnee National Grassland Ranger Curtis Youngman said.
Dispersed shooting is allowed in many areas of the Grassland, as long as all the rules and regulations are followed. Information about recreational shooting, including the rules and regulations, is available online at www.fs.usda.gov/goto/arp/targetshooting. In these hot summer months, it is especially important to take safety precautions and be mindful that hot projectiles and sparks from ricochets can ignite fires in dry grassy areas and in other dry brushy fuels. And remember, exploding targets and tracer bullets are always illegal.
