Google and Facebook have had a number of projects, large and small, where they've stepped into the internet infrastructure space. The most obvious ones would be Google Fiber, and for Facebook, the additional undersea pipeline they just laid between the US and Europe.

They've also had a number of other infrastructure plans as well, incorporating things like cell repeaters on weather balloons and solar-powered aircraft capable of providing web connectivity.

If you think those network infrastructures won't be optimized for GAFA (Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon) traffic, I've got a bridge to sell you.
