Default Where all the Elk Went Today.

Spent some quality family time out near Deckers today, shooting, off roading, and letting the kids splash around the S. Platte. On the drive home I saw the below pictured herd of Elk near the intersection of 67 and 85, we pulled a U-ee and found a spot to pull over. There were already a couple trucks pulled over as well. We all just sat parked by the roadside and watched. I would say conservatively that there were around 300 animals all grazing less than 100 yards from the highway. Then some teenager got out of his sedan, slammed his car door, then noisely walked across the gravel to get a better picture of the herd, which of course spooked them another hundred yards or so further uphill. We, and everyone else backed out and drove off. I'm not much of a hunter, and know very little about Elk, but enjoyed the sight of these animals immensely, and it was a great way to end an already great day.
Good luck out there all you hunter types!

Great sighting, ML! My friend Scott and I found a herd of 70+ yesterday morning too, filling both our cow tags for 3rd rifle season

the Cherokee ranch has always been loaded with elk, just can't always see them from the highway.
Laws aren't "preventable" measures. IOW, more gun laws won't stop mass shootings.

Elk are impressive. That is a pretty large herd for this time of year.

I've watched a decent sized herd down by the river along 85 & Titan rd. Might be the same one.
