    Default Dog Training Collars

Well, Rube is a runner. He runs in a direction, gets on a scent and just goes. Usually, he goes where he shouldn't. Once he runs the "stink" off he is more responsive.

I need something to get his attention. Looking for a shock, sound, vibrating collar. 300+ yard range. Adjustable stimulations. Water proof is a plus. Not going swimming but snow and rivers. Cost is a factor (under $50). Older eyes need easy to read remote controls.

    Ideas?

    TIA!

We use the petsafe Electronic collar. They're not $50 or less, or have we seen any under $100 collar actually work.
They have a warning beep as well as numerous adjustments that get your dogs attention.

Rube sounds like our healer mix, she sees or scents any small game and Gone!. IMO the collar has been the one way to keep her from getting shot if she went after something.

Cheap won't work. I tried that.
Highly recommend a Sport Dog unit.

+1 on SportDog. We have used this brand through the training class we went through. You'll definitely spend more than $50, though. Ours came with a lifetime warranty from being associated with the training. The one time we ran into issues with the original unit, it was replaced no questions asked.

Garmin tt15 with matching hand held works great for strong headed German shorthair pointer very good range. But not the cheapest either.

If Rube has any hound dog in him, good luck. Hounds are hard wired to follow their nose.

A good collar will resolve that issue, sooner than later.

Yep, I know you're looking for something inexpensive, but this is a case where spending a little extra will go a long way. I purchased a SportDog collar about five years ago because my dad has used them for years with no problems whatsoever. They have a 2 year warranty on their products. Ours crapped out at about the 2 1/2 year mark and my wife just called them. They no longer made that model, so instead they sent us a brand new model for free. The model they sent us still works. My wife has also lost the remotes on our property, which they have also replaced free of charge for us as well. I know that my getting a lemon of a unit isn't a singing praise for the company, but this company's customer service is unparalleled. Buy once cry once.
