Default Dems introduce bill banning assault weapons - "Assault Weapons Ban of 2018"

Dems introduce bill banning assault weapons

Reps. David Cicilline (D-R.I.) and Ted Deutch (D-Fla.) formally introduced a bill on Monday to ban assault weapons.

The legislation, called the "Assault Weapons Ban of 2018," was introduced less than two weeks after the mass shooting at a Parkland, Fla., high school that left 17 people dead. The gunman used an AR-15 assault rifle during the shooting, one of the many firearms that would be banned under the bill.

The legislation would make it "unlawful for a person to import, sell, manufacture, transfer, or possess, in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce, a semiautomatic assault weapon."

Deutch had promised to introduce such a ban during a CNN town hall event last week.

The new legislation is the latest attempt by Democrats to implement a ban on the guns since the Federal Assault Weapons ban expired in 2004.

The White House has already come out against such a ban, which is strongly opposed by the National Rifle Association (NRA).

"[President Trump] campaigned for president and was opposed to the assault weapons ban, and his position hasn't changed on that," a spokesman said.

Will they ever stop proposing such a ridiculous piece of legislation? Even after Sandy Hook, I think it was 8 democrats voted against it in the Senate. That's saying something.

Boulder is in a worse state.. I know one of the council members and I emailed him asking him about the city council assault weapons ban floating in the rumor mill.. his response made it sound like it’s a done deal with his justification of how they think preemption doesn’t matter. His words were that some members are leaning towards an outright ban and confiscation/turn in vs some on the side of grandfathering along with registration. Basically all members were in accordance that something has to be done. He included some bullshit graph of how shootings have increased since the end of the awb ban. He didn’t say where he stood.. obviously he’s a fudd, I’ve gone shooting with him before. Fuck them.

They don't care about "results". It gives them control and that's the only result they're looking for.

They just had this bill prewritten waiting for a chance to use it as always. Just a waste of time but it gets scary when you see how some Republicans are voting now.

    Define "work"

If the goal is to disarm the folks, then it works.

If the goal is to reduce crime/homicide, then it doesn't. But I think we know that's not the goal.

If works mean they won't get it passed then I guess I need my head checked because I remember 1994.

We've been yapping for generations and do nothing in response to this. We can't even Conservatives to vote and that seems to be the biggest threat we can bring to bear.

For Congress, losing your seat merely means you transition onto a board, media, or a lobbying firm. Some of those people don't even show up for work and just take a paycheck.
