I always assumed that LG made decent stuff, but I'm glad I read all the experiences here before I went out and bought one.

I think there is a thermal switch that protects the compressor. I changed one out on my friends fridge. It had a lot of cat hair on the coils. It wasn't too difficult.

Could be your defrost timer, very common to fail, easy to check and easy to replace.

    LOL- Murphy's Law.

If you're holding on to the fridge, might I suggest you use it for things that are convenient to chill, but not necessary, such as canned/bottled beverages, condiments, and the like. That way, if it craps out again you don't lose foodstuffs.

Yes, MrPrena, Samsung, and every other ice maker apparently, is total crap. We're on our second, and the repair guy said none of them work, and ours would be the same POS as what we were replacing, so don't bother. We bothered anyway, cause I pitched a bitch and got them to replace it under warranty, (2 weeks out of warranty). The "new one" failed almost immediately. Independent repair guy was telling the truth. So, we got a full refund from Samsung, still have the fridge, have to scrape ice from the ice maker every three days, and have to dump the shot glass full of water before getting any ice from the ice maker, and don't have a serial number sticker anymore. We're good. It doesn't work, they know it doesn't work, they don't have a fix, and don't care about us anymore. I say make do with what you have, save your money, and don't EVER buy an extended warranty from Home Depot.

MIL's Samsung icemaker was a pita. It constantly froze solid or melted or something, been too many years. Found a service bulletin and tore the whole thing up, did all the bulletin work and then it started working fine. Been a few years, but so far it works fine.

So I am going to pull the covers on the back of the fridge and vacuum off everything, right now it seems to be working, and I have thermometers in the freezer and refrigerated sections to monitor the temps.

I have till Tuesday to cancel the service call, so we will see what happens
