Default Fix a 7 year old fridge or just get a new one?

Our 7 yo LG fridge stopped keeping both the fridge and the freezer cold. The coils were virtually spotless, so no problem there. I'm stumped so I got the local appliance repair guy to check it out.

Guy says the compressor is shot and needs to be replaced, but good luck finding anyone that will come up here to fix it. He doesn't do compressors himself. He also tells me that I'd be lucky to go another 2 years after a new compressor is installed before it blows up again. $65 for the guy.

I find an "authorized LG repair facility" in Denver. They want $90 to come up and tell me what I already know. Plus they won't give me a labor estimate on replacing the compressor without me doling out the $90 to have their tech come up.....to tell me what I already know.

I'm getting frustrated and ready to just buy a new fridge, but 7 years ain't that old. But they don't make em like they used to.

Any experiance with this sort of stuff?

I'd think that $200 or under for another two years would probably be worth it. Give you some time to research a new one.

LOL my LG fridge crapped out yesterday, was 46 degrees in the freezer when we noticed something was wrong, 56 this morning.

Called Home Depot, which is where we bought it and have the extended warranty through them, it will be next Wed before the tech can come out, pretty sure it is the compressor, it doesn't run.

LG is not on my list of recommended appliances after this one, we have had it 2.5 years, and have another 2.5 years on the warranty, they already had to replace the ice maker 2 months ago

    Fuck lg.

My first fancy new stainless French fridge shit the bed after two years. The repair was going to cost a grand, even with the free compressor. I won’t buy anything that says lg after my poor customer service.

If you have it repaired don't skimp on getting someone good. My experience on small appliances like that is someone brakes in a new compressor, condenser, evap, ext and they plug a line and then you chase a restriction forever. Watched a boss and coworker at another company blow 10k trying to fix a 2k cooler

Memorial day weekend is just around the corner. I would wait and jump on a good deal.

If you have the tools and know how to change the compressor I would change it. If your gonna have to pay a service call and labor and there 20% plus mark up on parts it makes more sense to buy a new one. Just my 2 cents.

Looks like Home Depot is having a Memorial Day sale, so we're going for a new one. The one I was looking at last night went down $400 overnight. I don't have time to screw around for 2 weeks getting this POS fixed.

That is what I would do. Once you get it fixed fan motors and other shit will burn out from having to work double time from the failing compressor.

    Default LG

Wow. I was thinking LG was better than Samsung in terms of residential refrigerator.
I bought a Samsung Refrigerator about year ago, and all working great. However, the ice maker makes very loud noice during ice drop and water refill.
Even now, I even have to listen from upstrairs carefully to see if it ice maker or [maybe possible] intruder.
