Default Any recommendations for gas water heater service in COS?

I had no hot water this morning, what a fun surprise.

Tried to re-light the pilot and it was stubborn, finally got it going and shortly afterwards the flame noise changed and it was burning yellow instead if blue. Kindof a sizzling sound. I turned it off immediately, and the gas supply valve too.

Troubleshooting gas appliances is a bit out of my zone. But I hate having strangers in my home, especially when it means moving a stack of ammo cans out of sight beforehand.

    Anyone have a suggestion?

    Falcon Plumbing and Heating.
Gary & son have worked for us and has also been in my home.
No issues with guns and ammo!

BTW, that burning yellow and sizzling was condensation dripping off the tank as it starts to heat.
    IT is normal.
My 1 year old AO Smith water heater had trouble with a dying pilot light.
I dealt with relighting a few times before calling Gary.

Replace the thermocoupler, they're maybe $10 at any hardware store. That's usually the issue with most of them when the pilot is out, or trouble relighting.

Unless you have evidence of a water leak, dripping, puddling or pooling water, as GK said replace the thermo coupler and re-light and attend it till it is up to temperature. The yellow flame and sizzling is from condensation dripping onto the burner. You are attending it just in case, so you can shut the water supply off in the event of something happening. The crackling, popping and sizzling yellowish flame should dissipate when approaching normal operating temp.

If the flame continues to be off colored, check that you have proper air flow to the burner such as clogged or restricted air intake from spiders, mice, junk or kids stuffing items into or around where the water heater draws fresh air in.
