How would you adjust the protocol for weapons with less than 10 rounds capacity?

The other COF that I’ve seen is run with a 1911 from the holster.

The way Mr. Vickers explained it, this COF could be pulled out at any time during OTC and a failure had negative implications on the soldier’s graduation.

It’s not a hard COF but it’s an easy one to screw up.

Yep. That's how I have always approached this drill is I either pass it or go home.
