Just got back form the State Fair. Set off the metal detector and handed the person my CHP and she said, "You have to wait for staff" and called on the radio. About five minutes later she pointed and said "There he is!" ...as he drove right on by to another gate. After about 10 minutes he comes back, doesn't wand me, never looks at my permit, hands me a wrist band and has me write my name and address in a book (without looking at my ID I was tempted to make up a name and address - he wasn't an LEO - but I decided I'm on so many lists, one more would make no difference). While doing all this he got a call on the radio to go to another gate for a CHP holder.
...so they had one person handling all gates. Delay: About 15 minutes.
During the process I asked him what he expects the wrist band to do and his reply was "So we don't shot you." Yhea, I bet the police have been highly trained to look for wrist bands in high stress situations. Not.
Note that no one else has wrist bands, only CHP holders.
Anyway, attached is a picture of the band. The "bead" only slips on, you can't loosen the band. So I put the band on loosely and 50 feet inside of the gate I slipped the band off and put it in my pocket. Problem solved.
