    Default Backyard Chickens

My brother in Tulsa ordered 13 chickens online in April and brought 3 out to me in June. We built a coop got them set and I finally am starting to get eggs. Pretty cool

Picture shows the two eggs my chickens laid on either side of a store bought ?Alfrescos? brand egg.

They'll get a little bigger. What breed are they?

Never heard of a cherry egger. The Easter Egger laying yet? Mine never did.

For this area, I like Buff Orpingtons. They do well in our winter and are very docile birds.

And about the best value per pound.

I have a pretty decent size flock, and some of my favorites are our Golden Cuckoo Marans. Good dispositions (esp. the rooster) and good egg production. I like the color of the eggs from the Easter Eggers, but from what I've seen the best production goes to our Australorps, with second place going to our Speckled Sussex. The Sussex are also the friendliest chickens we have; one of them will come right up and sit on your shoes while you're trying to feed them, gather eggs and so on.

Been a long time fan of barred rocks. They don't seem to care about bad weather, aren't temperamental or territorial and are hardy layers. BuffOrphs are good too.

I still want one more that?s already laying. I don?t want to mess with raising one especially with winter around the corner.
