I'd like to ask about the safety. I'd like it if someone could describe how there's worked.
PM is probably best.

Check out the CMP forums. Lots of bolt action fans there.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
The safety lever on the right side pivots on the bottom. The pivot is a shaft that runs horizontally 90 degrees to the bore axis. With the lever in the forward position this shaft blocks the sear from moving down to release the sticker/firing pin. It also pushes forward on a plunger at the base of the safety lever that projects out and engages a hole in the bolt handle that stops the bolt handle moving from the fully locked position.
Hope this helps. I know what this is supposed to say but I don't know if it is actually clear or I missed something.

Making good people helpless won't make bad people harmless.
ive got 3 had 3 others ive sold feel free to hit me up if needed
1917's don't get nearly enough respect. I do have one if you have any further questions.
I'm guessing you got a sporterized one that they bubba'd the safety?
No, my son's '17 is in stock mil. configuration. The barrel was backbored about 3 inches in and did not shoot, I had ChuckinDenver rebarrel it with a Criterion and the thing shoots extremely well.
Here's the deal with the safety: When the gun is cocked (on close), safety on, and trigger pulled, all is well. But when the gun is cocked, safety on, trigger pulled and the safety flicked off the striker or firing pin drops with force.
That doesn't seem right. I've had someone on the CMP board say theirs is the same, and a member on this board tell me I have an issue.
I ordered a new trigger, sear, cocking piece and a few other parts, I'll swap them in, see if it makes a difference and report back.
Short answer to my problem was I had the wrong cocking piece on the bolt.
The 1917 Eddystone cocking piece I ordered was different than the one on the rifle, I swapped them out and all is well.
Thanks to all those who offered assistance.
