    Hi Joyce,

Thank you for organizing and growing an excellent sport for defensive minded shooters. The IDPA mission of providing a competitive environment for shooters to compete in, using their daily carried gear, is an excellent one.

I am writing you to ask you to continue to modify the sport to allow for what is common and best practice for the defensive carry of firearms. Please consider allowing Appendix carry, as the vast majority of serious shooters have moved to this carry method. Below are a few reasons why appendix carry belongs in IDPA.

Every idpa match I have been to, I have seen a shooter holster a strong side or small of back carried gun with the same issues: shooters blindly fumbling with a shirt caught in a holster or muzzling their spine and femoral arteries to start the holstering process.

I see this behavior in novices and masters.

Please consider that LESS of this behavior is present on any appendix carrying shooter simply by virtue of enhanced awareness.

Appendix carry is only deemed risky because the enhanced awareness let?s shooters know the bad things that are typical in ALL common holstering movements. In reality, it has all of the same risks, but affords the shooter use of both hands to holster and full vision of the inside of the holster, and the entire holstering process.

No other carry positions have that level of added safety and awareness.

Strong side carriers often muzzle their pelvis and both femoral arteries- A YouTube search will show IDPA masters do this on every stage of nationals.

    SOB carriers do the same.

The difference? They don?t know they are doing it, because they cannot see it with their own eyes.

Please consider adding appendix carry as an acceptable practice. The addition would grow the sport by including the new generation of shooters that understand what I have outlined above.

    Best,

Agreed, but is this a typo? Did you mean now?

It would make it more interesting if it was the "what is not common and best practice".

    Davsel, how so?

I?m 33. Of those my age or younger, Only slow kids, fudds and medical cases are carrying anything but appendix.

If all boomers died tomorrow, appendix carry would be the most common carry method of those who don?t suck.

It?s far and away the most common carry method of younger master class shooters.

I?m pushing fifty and carry appendix exclusively.

That being said, IDPA is a game and there could be potential safety issues. I would have some concerns that the guys in their twenties and thirties might accidentally blast their dicks off. Those kids are too high strung and twitchy under pressure.

    Ha! Love it.

Better that the young whipper snappers trade that flesh wound of a dick shot for a more significant chance to blow out spine, pelvis, and both femoral arteries!

That?ll teach them for making CZ cool!

His point is that is just as easy for those same guys to ND into their pelvis or femoral, so there is no argument for safety.
